The Maris Review, vol 61

Pub day is here.

If you're reading this you already know how many books I read, and how quickly most of them come and go. Now it's my turn. It feels surreal, after so much careful self-promotion leading up to today, that my publication date is finally here.

I wrote this book because I got angry. I got sick of the media pushing this narrative that we all grow increasingly conservative as we age, and I wanted to speak for the rest of us who’ve moved further to the left than ever before, and are dreaming bigger now than we did when we were kids. So many of the things I was taught to value are meaningless, but I value other things.

My book cover rules, but I hope you'll see that my book is not only about anger. It's about what happens after anger. It's about re-prioritizing what's important.

I'm hoping my book can be a welcoming, nonjudgmental to progressivism. Call me the anti- Bernie Bro, if you will. You don't have to have done all the reading to be mad or to dream bigger, you just need to believe that the status quo is not working.

I think Zohran Mamdami's recent win in the Democratic primary for NYC mayor is proof that I'm not alone. I know I'm not. When we look out for each other we all win.

You can read an excerpt from my book in Rolling Stone.

There's also one at Lit Hub.

Here's a rave in the AP!

Here's an interview Josh and I did on All Of It/WNYC.

Here's a delightful interview with Greg Mania over at Electric Literature. I may never live down my response to the question, "ok, but how are you growing more conservative?"

I did Sari Botton's Memoirland questionnaire.

I talked to my dear friend Kate Tuttle for the Boston Globe.

Here's how my book got made, in Publishers Weekly. Spoiler alert: I had lots of great help.

Next week I'll go back to recommending books by other authors, I promise!!!
